Lilydale's history is fascinating. It was never meant to be a village, but somehow it became one.

This pole shows many of the things that fit into the complex history of Lilydale's settlement. It also depicts paintings of buildings that no longer are here. We thank the Lilydale History Group for theit assistance.

One of the important things about Lilydale's history is that there was no convict labour. Lilydale and most of Tasmania's north-east was settled after convict transportation had ended.

Everything that was built, cut and created was done by the settlers themselves with no help from convict labour.
